Window Treatment Design Tips

When designing your window treatment, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Self or contrast lining is always a good choice when you have a style that shows the backside of the drape to the room.
  • Banding on the edges will enhance the vertical nature of your window treatment and make your windows look taller.
  • Sheers are fashionable.  Embellish them to add accent and visual depth to your treatment.
  • Contrast your fabrics.  It will make your window treatment more interesting.
  • Double up on trims and ruffles to create a custom look.
  • Break it on the floor when you increase your slouch at the top so your hem doesn't look uneven.
  • Bring the outdoor in by using sheer treatment.
  • Puddling adds a bit of glamour.  At anywhere from 8 inches to 20 inches to the finished length to create this effect on the floor.
  • Interlining adds fullness and weight.  It is a good idea for larger windows.
  • For a more modern look, use stationary panel as the over drapes and let your sheers do all the work behind the scenes.
  • A solid band at the bottom of your treatment will add a visual foundation.
