Robert Allen is our favorite distributor of upholstery fabric, trims and drapery fabric.  Their selection has a wide range of the most basic fabric to the most elaborate.   We find their prices to be very reasonable and fair.

The company does  a nice job of coordinating colors and styles.  You can basically find fabric and its coordinating trims by going through the books-all the books are coordinated so that you can easily find coordinating fabrics.  

There are three main collections:

Robert Allen Home and Ametex:  This is a very inexpensive line consisting of mostly cotton prints and linens.  The price is in the low end ($10-20 per yard), but it's adorable.

Robert Allen-this has the most range-the collection is very large.  The pricing is in the mid range.  We especially like the Modern Library collection--it has some beautiful patterns.  The company does an excellent job of bringing out new patterns all the time.

Beacon Hill-this is the couture line for Robert Allen. The price is very expensive, but oh it's so beautiful.  We love using Beacon Hill for our high-end design jobs.  They absolutely make the room.

In addition to fabric, Robert Allen also sells windows treatment (rods and rings).  The company also do customer bedding, pillows and headboards as well.  The only draw back is you have to use Robert Allen fabric--which makes things simpler in a way.  The company does not accept customer own materials.  As we mentioned early, their selection is HUGE.  The price for custom-made bedding is quite fair (it's the same as if you use a local workroom). If you are trying to coordinate your bedding with window treatment, we definitely recommend looking into Robert Allen Home.

Robert Allen introduced an upholstery furniture collection a few years ago.  We don't find it to be interesting (design-wise) and we find it a bit overpriced.
